In many rural communities in Tanzania, water is a scarce and essential resource. Both people and wildlife depend on it, often leading to conflicts over access. At Wild Spirit Fund, we work to find solutions that promote coexistence, and thanks to the support of our donors, we have achieved a significant milestone in the Orkisima community.
A Bigger Reservoir, A Smaller Problem
With the help of our community, we have expanded the reservoir near Orkisima village. This reservoir now collects more water and allows solid sediments to settle at the bottom, improving the quality of the water available. This has brought benefits to both the local community and the wildlife in the area.
Less Competition, More Coexistence
Before this improvement, water scarcity caused people and animals to see each other as competitors for a vital resource. Now, with a larger reservoir and cleaner water, families can access water without fearing contamination or overconsumption by wildlife. This reduces tensions and fosters a more harmonious coexistence between humans and animals.
Rain, An Unexpected Ally
This year, the rains have been generous, filling the reservoir and ensuring access to water for a longer period. It’s a reminder that when sustainable and well-planned infrastructure is created, both ecosystems and communities can thrive together.
This project is another step in our commitment to conservation and peaceful coexistence. We are deeply grateful to everyone who made this improvement in Orkisima possible. Together, we continue to prove that a world where humans and wildlife share resources fairly is possible.
